Deepening your voice requires you to understand how your voice is created and addressing the underlying causes of why your voice is high-pitched.
When you speak, air comes from your lungs through your wind pipe. This air causes your vocal cords to vibrate, producing sound. The sound then comes out of your mouth. Like a stringed instrument, the tighter the vocal cords, the higher-pitched the sound that emerges.
To illustrate what we mean, try this: hum with your head facing the floor. Then gradually lift your head towards the ceiling while continuing to hum. You’ll notice that as you raise your head, the pitch of your voice also starts to go up. This is because the muscles in your larynx or voice box became tenser. When you were facing downwards your larynx was relaxed and more supple, and the pitch was lower.
So to produce permanent results in deepening your voice, you have to eliminate the stress in your larynx. There are a couple of ways you can do this: do exercises to strengthen your neck muscles and deepen your breathing. This is just one of many techniques you can employ to achieve that power commanding voice you’ve always wanted.
When the muscles of your neck are too weak, the muscles around your vocal cords have to do the work of supporting your neck, creating more tension and resulting in a higher voice. When your breathing is deeper, then you can produce more air and are better able to modulate your voice. There are a few methods that when you practice them religiously, you’ll be on your way to deepening your voice, and commanding respect too.
