How to Make the Voice Deeper

deeper voice

When you make a humming sound, using the deepest tone you currently have, with your head dipped down, your chin to your chest, you can notice something revealing. The minute you make that same exact tone, but lift your head up high, with your chin to the sky, that same tone becomes higher.

What this shows, is that tension is the answer to a deep crisp voice. A voice box can become tense for many reasons and the resulting voice can become quite squeaky or high pitched. This has nothing to do with the size of your vocal chords. When you lifted your head in the exercise above, the vocal chords were stretched tighter, causing the sound of the tone to become higher.

Think of your vocal chords like a string on a guitar. If you have ever seen a guitar close up, you will have noticed that there is a heavy thick string at the top and a light thin string at the bottom. People like Barry White could be associated with the top thick string, and average men may be closer to the bottom thin string.

But the thing is, when you loosen even the bottom thin string, it can begin to sound very deep. Despite its thickness, even the thinnest string can sound quite deep and give a low tone if it is loosened sufficiently.

The quickest way to deepen your speaking voice is to release the tension that must exist in your vocal chords, if your voice is thin or squeaky. The vocal chords are a muscle group that can easily be conditioned and trained to relax and reverberate deeply.

Getting a Deeper Voice – How to Get a Deep Voice

deeper voice

The majority of men that ask how to get a deep voice are not wanting to become tenor singers or Barry White impersonators – they simply want to increase the depth of their tone as they feel that their voice is too high pitched. Having a squeaky or high pitch voice can utterly destroy your confidence, especially when it comes to girls as unfortunately most girls adore a big, strong, deep, crisp sound from a man, it literally makes them melt.

So what produces the tone of your voice? It’s the vocal chords, a small muscle group in the throat that produces sound when the air in the lungs is released and passed through those vocal chords which makes them vibrate. The sound of that vibration in your voice box is the tone that comes out of your mouth when you speak.

The difficulty a man with a high pitched voice has, is not the size of his vocal chords, but the tension of those vocal chords. The more highly strung those chords in the throat are, the more highly strung the sound they make. Learning how to relax that tension is the answer to how to get a deep voice.

Getting a deeper voice can easily be achieved with some simple exercises. Exercises that will lengthen and loosen the chords in the throat and force the voice box to become relaxed therefore providing you with a lower tone to your voice. It is simply a matter of conditioning the chords in the voice box to vibrate in a smooth deep timber.

Make Your Voice Deep – 3 Simple Exercises

deeper voiceIf you want to make your voice deep, then you need to strengthen the muscles of your neck. Remember that the larynx or voice box, which is the organ that produces your voice, is a muscle. The tenser the muscle, the higher-pitched the voice. Normally, the muscles of the neck itself do the job of supporting your neck. But if they are too weak, the muscles around the larynx have to take up the slack, resulting in tense muscles and a higher voice. So to address this problem, you have to do some exercises to strengthen your neck muscles. Here are three simple exercises you can try that require no equipment.

For the first exercise place your left or right hand on your forehead. Then let your head bend forward with your chin moving towards your chest, while the hand provides resistance by pushing backward. Maintain this position for about two seconds, and then return to starting position. This exercise can be done either standing or sitting, although if you’re standing, make sure you maintain good posture. Posture is an important part to make your voice deep.

For the second exercise, begin by placing your palm on the back of your head. Then tilt your head backward with your chin pointing upwards, while your palm pushes forwards. Maintain this position for two seconds then return to starting position. Again, this can be done while sitting or standing.

For the third exercise, place your left palm on the left side of your head. Move your head towards your left shoulder while your hand provides resistance. Maintain the position for two seconds then return to starting position. Repeat with the right side.

You should do at least three repetitions of each exercise. These exercises are also good for reducing tension as well as helping to make your voice deep. You can also do these exercises as part of your regular strength training workouts.
