A recent study of over 100 women showed that 75% of them tend not to trust an answer from a man with a high pitched or squeaky voice. To clarify, this survey was comprised exclusively of women aged from 18 to 50 but the results were surprising to say the least.

This type of result indicates that a high pitched or squeaky voice actually creates doubt in a womans mind. Whether the question is…”have you had a good day?” or “Were you cheating on me?” The result is the same, if the voice is not crisp deep and the tone is not re-assuring, the tendency is to doubt the truth of the answer given by the man with a high pitched voice.

Further more, the study showed eye contact to be useless when it came to the sound of a squeaky voice. It seems like the old fall back of making eye contact to be of little use in generating credibility, when the voice was weak. But bear in mind, this study was made within the frame work of the male/female dynamic. A study of how men respond to this type of voice weakness has not yet been completed.

Without the capacity to be believed, to foster trust in others, life can often become difficult for men with a weak or high pitched voice. Ultimately, what this survey points to is that for at least 75% of 100 women, a deep crisp voice is the desired way they need to be addressed for them to invest trust in a mans answers. Does this mean getting a permanent crisp deep voice can lead to a better future? Seems logical.

Getting a deeper, crisper timber in your voice can have a positive impact on your life. After all, life is mostly dependent on social interaction, and having a light, thin voice in a man especially, can not only be embarrassing, but socially ineffective, so here are a few tips.

1) Relax, before speaking, make sure you are relaxed. Many people who fail to have a deep crisp voice simply don’t remember to relax and that anxiety is translated into stress elements in the vocal chords. So ideally, you will always remember to think before making any words. This is a small point, because there are several reasons why the voice is strained or high pitched, but it is definitely worth keeping in mind because, even if you say nothing, sometimes it is more powerful than speaking up in a squeaky voice.

2) Eye contact gives you confidence, so always remember to make eye contact when speaking. A lack of confidence socially can lead to awkward sounding voice inflections. When your confidence is high, typically your voice will lower because you feel a greater sense of self control. This comes with good body posture, head up, and of course vocal timber control.

3) Be assertive. Not aggressive, many people confuse assertiveness with aggression. Assertiveness is controlled aggression and it is designed to give you control of your social environment. Showing assertive qualities is not always wise, depending on what the social environment is, however, being assertive approximately 10% of your social time helps allow for confidence to build, others in you and you in yourself.
