Speaking Voice Training – Tips From a Professional Voice Coach

deeper voiceWe all know that having a good speaking voice can help you succeed in life. A deep, resonant voice also makes people sit up and listen to you – just look at Barry White. Unfortunately, most people don’t have good voices – they have squeaky, breathy, high-pitched voices. Fortunately, there is speaking voice training available that you can do to make your voice sound crisp and powerful.

First though, you have to record yourself. This will allow you to assess it and look for areas of improvement. It will also serve to record your progress.

Then practice deep breathing from your diaphragm. Do long, controlled exhales. Being able to take longer breaths will give you more control over your voice.

Learn to speak more slowly. If you speak too quickly, this may cause your larynx to tense up, causing your voice to go higher. Talking too fast will also make it harder for people to keep up with what you are saying.

Practice speaking clearly. Having a good speaking voice is useless if people can’t make out what you’re saying. Try exaggerating your lip movements to articulate better. You can also say tongue twisters repeatedly until you master them. These are just a few of many techniques that speaking voice training would teach you.

Learn to moderate your volume and your pitch. Don’t talk too loudly or too softly, and try to pitch your voice lower. You can develop your pitch through vocal exercises such as humming.

Practicing these simple techniques will undoubtedly improve your voice if you do them regularly, but you may also want to get some kind of formal speaking voice training. Having a deeper voice is proven to earn you respect and, of course, attention from women as well.
