Controlling Your Voice To Make It Deeper

deeper voiceMany men are shy and embarrassed because their voice is not as deep as they would like it to be. They don’t even realize that they can change it through simple muscle memory exercises. If you stop to think about it for a minute, you will realize that the voice is controlled by muscles, and so therefore it can be trained and built up like very other muscle.

All you have to do is utilize your vocal muscles too create the deepest sound possible on a regular basis. This will create muscle memory that will aid your voices ability to create specific sounds, in this case deeper sounds. You see, your voice creates sounds by controlling the air that is being pushed out of your lungs as you talk. The more tension that is being put on the air, the higher the pitch of the sound will be. If you can strengthen and lengthen your vocal chords, you can become better at creating any type of sound you’d like. Take for example the man from the movie “police academy” who is able to make thousands of sounds with his voice, even mimicking cars and chainsaws. Do you think this man was born with this ability? Of course not, he trained his vocal chords over years of hard work and practice to be able to make those sounds.

All you have to do, is do something similar, except it probably won’t take you many years, only a couple of months, and you won’t be focusing on making car sounds either. There are many exercises that you can do to deepen your voice, so I cannot go into all of the right now. The main thing that all of the voice strengthening exercises do, is lengthen your vocal chords and improve your vocal muscle memory.

How You Can Deepen Your Voice

deeper voiceAt one point or another, pretty much everyone gets embarrassed about the way their voice sounds. Some people only have to go through this embarrassment during the time their voice is changing, as a pre-teen/teenager. Yet for some people it is long lasting problem that could cause serious self esteem issues.

A person’s voice is their way of expressing themselves. If someone has a voice that they are ashamed of they will most likely be very shy and not speak too often. This can affect multiple aspects of someone’s life, like their ability to perform during a job interview. Other people have strong and deep voices, that they are proud of. These people are generally more outspoken, and therefore it is easier for them to make friends and be successful in life.

You see, your voice plays a big role in the outcome of your life, and so it should be taken care of and pushed to it’s full potential. What most people don’t realize is you can actually change your voice as you see fit. Yes that’s right, even if you have a voice like Peewee Herman, there is always something you can do about it.

The section of your throat that contains the vocal chords is called the larynx. When your vocal chords vibrate they create a sound. The pitch/tone of the sound will depend on how much tension is being put on your vocal chords an how long your vocal chords are. If there is high tension then you will get a high pitched sound, where as relaxed  vocal chords creating low tension will produce deeper sound. Therefore, in order to deepen your voice you must make your vocal chords longer, and lower the amount of tension in your larynx.

The muscles that are responsible for controlling your vocal sounds are called Cricothyroid muscles and also the Vocalis muscles. So, exercising these muscles will give you a deeper voice. “How do I exercise them?” You may ask. Well, the answer is really quite simple. All you have to do to deepen your voice is  hum different notes in a deep voice for prolonged periods of time.  By training your vocal chords to produce a certain amount of tension you will be lengthening them and your voice will eventually become deeper over time.

Likewise, if you wanted to be able to hit the high notes, then you would just hum high pitched sounds in different notes for prolonged periods of time. If you want a raspy voice then let your voice get sore by depriving it of water when it gets dry, then try to push more air out when you talk, like you are talking from within your chest. Over time the vocal chords will scar and then heal, producing a raspy sound as the vibrations pass through the scar tissue and the saliva that is built up on it.

While most people would not want a raspy voice, it just goes to show that the voice is a changeable  muscle group just like the rest of the muscles in your body. If you’re trying to change your voice, then you’ll need to remember it will take persistance.

How to Lower Your Voice – Impossible Unless You Improve Your Understanding

deeper voiceThere are many reasons why a person may seek to lower the tone of their voice. Equally, there are many methods that can be adopted to achieve this. However, a great and natural way to start is by taking up singing. Professional singers are trained in voice control and this knowledge can be imparted to you to help you lower your voice. When you first start singing you will probably find that you are not very good at it. Your range of notes is likely to be quite low and it will be difficult to sing in tune.

One of the reasons those new to singing experience these problems is because the muscles used to control the voice are insufficiently developed. These muscles are the diaphragm and intercostals muscles which are located in the thorax. It is important to regularly exercise these muscles so that they become strong and toned. Exercises which help you to achieve this will improve your voice control and make it become deeper.

In the beginning you will have what is known as a mid range voice. This means that at first you will have a very limited range of notes and experience difficulties reaching the notes at the high and low ends of the scale.

As you progress and continue with your exercises you will notice a marked improvement in your range of notes. Your speaking voice will also become noticeably lower. As this change occurs it is important to ensure that you maintain the volume of your voice and not slip into the habit of allowing it to become too soft.

There are other exercises, which can be performed in conjunction with your singing to help lower your voice. These are the speech and breathing exercises taught in drama schools. They are similar in nature to singing exercises but are performed with the specific purpose of helping you to speak naturally with a lower voice.

Of course using natural methods to lower your voice takes time and patience. You can ordinarily expect it to take up to a year for a noticeable change to occur. In this case you may wish to seek hormonal treatments or other medications to help speed up the process.

In the majority of cases hormonal treatments would not be considered simply for career reasons. Hormonal treatments are only considered appropriate for serious medical conditions. This includes those women seeking gender-realignment surgery to become a man. However, hormonal treatments can be prohibitively expensive. Natural methods provide a much cheaper alternative to use in the first instance.

How to Lower Your Voice – Effective Methods Without the Use of Medicine

deeper voiceMany people think that a lower speaking voice would be a desirable attribute to possess. A person may want a lower speaking voice for professional reasons. For example they may wish to pursue a career in the performing arts or simply because they believe that a lower speaking voice will help to improve their self- image. Whatever the motives, although it is true that there are a large number of medications available, which can help, most people want to achieve a lower speaking voice without having to resort to artificial treatments or surgery. One of the best natural methods to achieve this is to practice exercises similar to those taught in singing schools and at acting classes.

Having decided that you wish to acquire a lower speaking voice the first step is to consider what you have to work with. There are three basic types of voice. These are: light, medium and dark. It is immaterial what your starting point is. Measures can be taken to lower your voice from what you have at the moment.

One of the first steps to take is to embark on a series of exercise programmes. These are specifically designed to strengthen the muscles that control breathing and speech. This will involve practicing singing techniques and scales. This combination of exercises will not only help to improve your singing voice and the length of time that a note can be held for but they will also assist in lowering the tone of your voice.

One of the simplest exercises to help you lower your speaking voice is to take a lighted candle and see how far away you are able to place the candle but are still able to blow it out. Perform this exercise on a daily basis gradually increasing the distance between you and the candle. Over time you will notice that you are able to get further and further away from the candle but are still able to blow it out.

The lowering of the voice by natural methods will not occur quickly. However, you can expedite the process by ensuring that you practice your exercises on a regular basis.

Speech is not just a matter of how high or deep your voice is. Other factors need to be taken into consideration. These include tone and pronunciation. Even your facial expressions, when you speak, all play a part in how, what you are actually saying, comes across to the listener.
