Why My Voice Is Not Deep Enough?

There is a simple exercise you can do right now to demonstrate why a voice in some men is not deep consistently. Stress elements play a large role in voice crispness providing you do not need medical assistance. This simple exercise shows how the voice box is structured.

You can do this right now if you are alone, simply hum a flat tone with your head tilted down with your chin nearly touching your chest, now continue the tone but lift your head right back with your face to the ceiling.

What you will find is when you lift your head high, the pitch changes automatically to a higher pitch. It would be impractical to talk with your jaw tucked into your chest all the time, but this simple exercise demonstrates how the larynx is built and how it works.

The larynx is essentially a muscle group that is formed in such a way to facilitate raw sound when air passes through it. This raw sound is shaped into words by the use of mouth shape and tongue manipulations. It is this raw sound we are interested in changing if we want a deeper and crisper voice.

From the exercise you will notice that despite your best efforts to maintain the same tone, it undeniably changed when you lifted your head, it went to a higher pitch. What actually happened is that your voice box muscles were stretched. When your jaw was at your chin, the voice box was limber, much like winding down a guitar string lower, the pitch changes.

Stress elements in the larynx create that lost control and the tightness in the larynx is what is responsible for your inability to maintain and control a crisp, deep speaking voice.

Deepening Your Voice – Techniques You Can Use

deeper voiceDeepening your voice requires you to understand how your voice is created and addressing the underlying causes of why your voice is high-pitched.

When you speak, air comes from your lungs through your wind pipe. This air causes your vocal cords to vibrate, producing sound. The sound then comes out of your mouth. Like a stringed instrument, the tighter the vocal cords, the higher-pitched the sound that emerges.

To illustrate what we mean, try this: hum with your head facing the floor. Then gradually lift your head towards the ceiling while continuing to hum. You’ll notice that as you raise your head, the pitch of your voice also starts to go up. This is because the muscles in your larynx or voice box became tenser. When you were facing downwards your larynx was relaxed and more supple, and the pitch was lower.

So to produce permanent results in deepening your voice, you have to eliminate the stress in your larynx. There are a couple of ways you can do this: do exercises to strengthen your neck muscles and deepen your breathing. This is just one of many techniques you can employ to achieve that power commanding voice you’ve always wanted.

When the muscles of your neck are too weak, the muscles around your vocal cords have to do the work of supporting your neck, creating more tension and resulting in a higher voice. When your breathing is deeper, then you can produce more air and are better able to modulate your voice. There are a few methods that when you practice them religiously, you’ll be on your way to deepening your voice, and commanding respect too.
