Controlling Your Voice To Make It Deeper

deeper voiceMany men are shy and embarrassed because their voice is not as deep as they would like it to be. They don’t even realize that they can change it through simple muscle memory exercises. If you stop to think about it for a minute, you will realize that the voice is controlled by muscles, and so therefore it can be trained and built up like very other muscle.

All you have to do is utilize your vocal muscles too create the deepest sound possible on a regular basis. This will create muscle memory that will aid your voices ability to create specific sounds, in this case deeper sounds. You see, your voice creates sounds by controlling the air that is being pushed out of your lungs as you talk. The more tension that is being put on the air, the higher the pitch of the sound will be. If you can strengthen and lengthen your vocal chords, you can become better at creating any type of sound you’d like. Take for example the man from the movie “police academy” who is able to make thousands of sounds with his voice, even mimicking cars and chainsaws. Do you think this man was born with this ability? Of course not, he trained his vocal chords over years of hard work and practice to be able to make those sounds.

All you have to do, is do something similar, except it probably won’t take you many years, only a couple of months, and you won’t be focusing on making car sounds either. There are many exercises that you can do to deepen your voice, so I cannot go into all of the right now. The main thing that all of the voice strengthening exercises do, is lengthen your vocal chords and improve your vocal muscle memory.

The Mental Aspect of Voice Control for a Deeper Voice

deeper voiceIf you take the time to ponder about the workings of your voice, you will realize that it is all about muscle memory. Muscle memory can be taught and learned at any point in a persons life, so there is no reason to be discouraged if you do not like the way your voice is right now. Just know that it CAN be changed, and then take the steps necessary to get yourself a deeper voice.

All that is needed to change your voice is willpower, and the ability to recognize sounds that you make and then duplicate them. You can do this by humming in a deep voice and then replicating the sounds you make, over and over again. Your confidence levels will greatly affect your ability to produce these deeper sounds in front of a group of people. If your confidence levels are low then you can expect your voice to crack from time to time, and revert back to that squeaky pitch that you and other people hate so much.

A lot of guys have a deeper voice when they first wake up and when they are alone, then when they are not well rested or when they are in front of a lot of people. High pitched sounds are caused by tension in the throat, and tension of the throat is usually related to tension of the mind. This is why when people are about to fall asleep and they are really relaxed there voice becomes deeper, or “groggy”. This is not just because their throat is dry, it is also because there is less tension being placed on the vocal chords, since they are about to dose off.

A lot of times, when certain pressures are released from a persons life, their voice can changed drastically overnight. You may notice people may have higher pitched voices while they are at work. This is not just because they are trying to sound nice, it is also because they are putting themselves through a lot of tension and this is tensing up their vocal chords.

Once you realize the mental aspect of changing your voice, you can take the steps necessary to conquer the underlying problems that are causing your voice to sound the way it does.

Tension Of The Voice

deeper voiceHere is a little experiment for you to do, try humming in a very deep voice with your chin touching your chest, now raise your chin upwards as you are humming, slowly looking towards the sky. What you will notice is, as you raise your head up, the tone of your voice will get lower as the tension is released from your vocal chords.

This is illustrating how the tension of the vocal chords is the key to achieving that deep voice you have always wanted. There are multiple causes for you vocal chords becoming tense, thereby causing you to have a high pitched voice. It really doesn’t have anything to do with how big your vocal chords are. Just by raising your chin from your chest while making a sound, you have demonstrated that the only thing that matters, when trying to get a deeper voice, is the tension of the voice box.

Your vocal chords are actually very similar to a string instrument. Even the smallest chord on a string instrument can be loosened to give it a deeper sound. So therefore, you can clearly see that the best way to deepen your voice is to release some of the tension on your vocal chords by doing various exercises like humming and breathing exercises. Humming in a deep voice in different notes can help you control the deeper tones of your voice and release some tension from your vocal chords.

Some of the exercises you should be doing are mental though, they have to do with controlling your emotions to keep tension from occurring when you are in crowed places. That’s why some singers’ voices crack when they are singing in front of large crowds, it is simply the tension that is being forced upon their voices by the pressure of being in front of all of those people.

Deepening Your Voice With Persistence

deeper voiceMost men assume there is simply nothing they can do when it comes to deepening their voice.  This is just simply not true, there are plenty of ways one can go about deepening the tone of their voice, through various vocal exercises. While it won’t necessarily be easy, it is entirely possible with the right vocal training.

The fact is, our vocal chords are a muscle group and can be strengthened just like every other muscle group in our bodies. The only difference is, it will take a different kind of exercise, a more concentrated and specific exercise, in order to deepen the voice.  Most of these exercises can take months to see any results with. The reason why it can take such long periods of time for your voice to change, is because most of the exercises that will allow you to do so, are actually geared towards goals other than just making your voice deep.

Most of the vocal training exercises attempt to teach one how to control the vocal chords so they can sing better, A.K.A singing lessons. The problem is, a lot of guys could give a hoot if they can sing, they just want a deeper voice. There are other more motivational type methods that people get confused with such as hypnosis. These methods are not very successful, that is unless the person being hypnotized firmly believes that the hypnosis will work for them. It has been said “You are as you think” and that is the core issue of hypnosis, it only works on those who believe it will. It is simply a method of unleashing your own willpower in a subconscious way.

Another exercise known as elocution, attempts to teach one to speak more eloquently, so they may use their voice more effectively in venues such as job interviews.

All of these exercises really are beating around the bush when it comes to getting a deep voice, and if you are trying to get a deep voice then singing exercises would still be your best bet. However if you are trying to target a specific tone, like a having a deeper voice, then I would suggest you limit the exercises to ones that will help you with this. For example, just walk around all day humming different notes in a deep voice, over time this is a sure fire way to see results. Remember persistence is the key, when it comes to changing any part of your body, not just the voice.

How You Can Deepen Your Voice

deeper voiceAt one point or another, pretty much everyone gets embarrassed about the way their voice sounds. Some people only have to go through this embarrassment during the time their voice is changing, as a pre-teen/teenager. Yet for some people it is long lasting problem that could cause serious self esteem issues.

A person’s voice is their way of expressing themselves. If someone has a voice that they are ashamed of they will most likely be very shy and not speak too often. This can affect multiple aspects of someone’s life, like their ability to perform during a job interview. Other people have strong and deep voices, that they are proud of. These people are generally more outspoken, and therefore it is easier for them to make friends and be successful in life.

You see, your voice plays a big role in the outcome of your life, and so it should be taken care of and pushed to it’s full potential. What most people don’t realize is you can actually change your voice as you see fit. Yes that’s right, even if you have a voice like Peewee Herman, there is always something you can do about it.

The section of your throat that contains the vocal chords is called the larynx. When your vocal chords vibrate they create a sound. The pitch/tone of the sound will depend on how much tension is being put on your vocal chords an how long your vocal chords are. If there is high tension then you will get a high pitched sound, where as relaxed  vocal chords creating low tension will produce deeper sound. Therefore, in order to deepen your voice you must make your vocal chords longer, and lower the amount of tension in your larynx.

The muscles that are responsible for controlling your vocal sounds are called Cricothyroid muscles and also the Vocalis muscles. So, exercising these muscles will give you a deeper voice. “How do I exercise them?” You may ask. Well, the answer is really quite simple. All you have to do to deepen your voice is  hum different notes in a deep voice for prolonged periods of time.  By training your vocal chords to produce a certain amount of tension you will be lengthening them and your voice will eventually become deeper over time.

Likewise, if you wanted to be able to hit the high notes, then you would just hum high pitched sounds in different notes for prolonged periods of time. If you want a raspy voice then let your voice get sore by depriving it of water when it gets dry, then try to push more air out when you talk, like you are talking from within your chest. Over time the vocal chords will scar and then heal, producing a raspy sound as the vibrations pass through the scar tissue and the saliva that is built up on it.

While most people would not want a raspy voice, it just goes to show that the voice is a changeable  muscle group just like the rest of the muscles in your body. If you’re trying to change your voice, then you’ll need to remember it will take persistance.
